The Effect of Teams Games Tournament (TGT) Learning Model on IPAS Learning Outcomes

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect off learning outcomes in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS), on the topic of Ecosystems and the Environment, between students taught using the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model and those taught conventionally, in Grade V of SDN Cimuning 1, Bekasi City. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 35 students of Class VA as the experimental class and 30 students of Class VB as the control class, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 15-item multiple-choice pretest and posttest, and analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, an Independent Samples t-Test, N-Gain, and Cohen's d with IBM SPSS Statistics version 26. The mean posttest score of the experimental class (81.11) was higher than that of the control class (72.50), with a significance value of 0.016 (< 0.05), so H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. The N-Gain was 0.576 for the experimental class and 0.408 for the control class (both in the moderate category), with a Cohen's d of 0.62 (moderate effect size). Thus, there was a significant difference in learning outcomes between the two classes, and the use of the TGT model was associated with higher IPAS learning outcomes. These results should be interpreted with caution because the two classes differed in prior ability, the classes were not randomly formed, and Quizizz was used as part of the treatment.
