Allegation of Research Misconduct
The journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity and publication ethics. Allegations of research misconduct involving submitted manuscripts or published articles will be handled seriously, fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with established publication ethics guidelines, including the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Research misconduct may include, but is not limited to, fabrication or falsification of research data, plagiarism, deceptive manipulation of images or research results, and other serious violations of research integrity. Allegations concerning authorship, ethical approval, conflicts of interest, or other publication ethics issues will also be assessed in accordance with the journal's applicable policies.
Reporting Allegations
Any individual who identifies a potential case of research misconduct may report the concern to the journal's Editor-in-Chief or editorial office. Reports should provide sufficient information to identify the manuscript or published article, describe the nature of the concern, and include supporting evidence where available. All reports will be assessed objectively, regardless of the identity or position of the person submitting the allegation.
Initial Assessment and Investigation
Upon receiving an allegation, the Editor-in-Chief will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether the concern warrants further examination. Where appropriate, the journal may request clarification, supporting documentation, or a response from the authors concerned.
If the allegation raises credible concerns that require formal investigation, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant author's institution, research organization, funding body, or other competent authority. The journal will cooperate with these parties as appropriate. The journal's editorial assessment does not replace a formal institutional investigation where such an investigation is required.
Confidentiality and Fairness
All allegations will be handled with due regard for confidentiality, procedural fairness, and the rights of the parties involved. Authors will be given an appropriate opportunity to respond to concerns raised against their work. Information relating to an allegation will be disclosed only to individuals or organizations that reasonably need it for assessment, investigation, or the protection of research integrity, subject to applicable requirements.
The submission of an allegation does not, by itself, establish that misconduct has occurred. Editorial actions will be based on the available evidence and the outcome of the relevant assessment or investigation.
Editorial Actions
Depending on the nature and severity of the concern and the evidence available, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:
- Request clarification, additional data, or supporting documents from the authors.
- Request corrections to a manuscript or published article where an appropriate correction can resolve the identified issue.
- Reject a submitted manuscript if it fails to meet the journal's standards of research integrity or publication ethics.
- Publish an Expression of Concern when substantial concerns remain unresolved and readers need to be informed.
- Retract a published article when the evidence and applicable publication ethics guidance justify retraction.
- Notify the relevant institution, funding body, or other competent authority when appropriate.
Any correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction will be published and linked to the relevant article in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and applicable publication ethics guidance.
Prevention and Continuous Improvement
The journal encourages authors to maintain accurate research records, preserve supporting data, disclose relevant conflicts of interest, comply with research ethics requirements, and report their findings transparently. The journal will continue to review and improve its procedures for handling allegations to protect the integrity of the scholarly record and maintain public trust in scientific publication.
