Abstract

Families play a vital role in shaping the personality and well-being of their members, making family harmony a crucial factor in creating a positive atmosphere. However, harmony is often disrupted by external factors such as the social environment and history of chronic disease, as well as internal factors such as a lack of self-disclosure. Family harmony becomes increasingly vulnerable when a family member suffers from a chronic illness, such as stroke, diabetes mellitus, and other chronic illnesses. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the social. environment, self-disclosure, and history of chronic disease and family harmony in the DPW PKHI Community in West Java. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted in the DPW PKHI Community in West Java, which consisted of 162 individuals. The analytical methods used were univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. The results of the bivariate study with chisquare showed that from the demographics of the members of the DPW PKHI West Java, only employment (p=0.000; OR=12.528) was related to family harmony, while other demographics were not related (p-value=>0.05). Meanwhile, in the variable relationship test, social environment (p=0.000; OR=21.377), self-disclosure (p=0.002; OR=2.808), history of chronic disease (p=0.000; OR=6.605) were related to family harmony. Strengthening social support and increasing open communication within families, as well as psychological interventions such as hypnotherapy, are needed to prevent conflict and strengthen family harmony, especially in families with members with chronic illnesses.
