Qualitative Study of Drug Control in the Internal Medicine Clinic of Dr. Abdul Radjak Hospital, Purwakarta to Support Health Services

Abstract

Hospital Pharmacy Installation (IFRS) is a functional implementation unit that organizes all pharmaceutical service activities in hospitals, including the management of pharmaceutical preparations, medical devices, disposable medical materials (BMHP), as well as clinical pharmacy services such as prescription assessment, counseling, and drug therapy monitoring, aimed at improving quality, ensuring legal certainty, and protecting patients. Dr. Abdul Radjak General Hospital, Purwakarta, experienced a high number of visits to the internal medicine clinic in 2021-2023, potentially leading to under-stocking of medications, which could reduce the quality of patient care. Drug inventory control is essential to optimize existing healthcare services. The objective was to determine the qualitative results of drug control at the Internal Medicine Clinic at Dr. Abdul Radjak General Hospital, Purwakarta. This research method utilized in-depth interviews and observation. The results revealed that the current drug inventory control system primarily employs the consumption method based on data from previous consumption periods. In certain circumstances, a combination of the consumption and morbidity methods (proxy consumption) is also utilized.. The availability of drugs prescribed by internal medicine specialists is often lacking, impacting healthcare services. Further research is recommended using quantitative methods to assess the effectiveness of the ABC-VEN method in improving healthcare services.
