Abstract

Breast cancer is a malignant disease that originates from glandular cells, ducts, and supporting breast tissue that develops due to genetic changes in body cells. Breast cancer is influenced by various risk factors, especially modifiable factors such as obesity, lack of physical activity, alcohol consumption, and exposure to exogenous hormones. Highlighting the need for preventive efforts through the promotion of healthy behaviors, including the utilization of family medicinal plants (Tanaman Obat Keluarga/TOGA). The Health Belief Model (HBM) can be used to explain how individual perceptions influence breast cancer prevention attitudes among women of reproductive age. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between HBM dimensions in the utilization of TOGA and attitudes toward breast cancer prevention. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design conducted in RW 02 Lamper Krajan, Semarang City, in December 2025. A total of 124 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The variables examined included perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that all HBM variables were significantly associated with attitudes toward breast cancer prevention, namely perceived susceptibility (p = 0.001), perceived severity (p = 0.001), perceived benefits (p = 0.018), perceived barriers (p = 0.032), cues to action (p = 0.042), and self-efficacy (p = 0.030). Multivariate analysis revealed that perceived barriers were the most dominant factor influencing breast cancer prevention attitudes (p = 0.012; OR = 0.238). Therefore, enhanced health education and community empowerment programs are needed to reduce perceived barriers and strengthen positive attitudes toward breast cancer prevention.
