The Impact of Transportation and Warehousing Digitalization on Operational Efficiency Through Integrated Information Systems

The growth of e-commerce has driven an increase in logistics activities and requires companies to improve operational efficiency through the utilization of digital technology. However, digitalization in transportation and warehousing activities is not always supported by optimal information integration. This study analyzes the effects of transportation and warehousing digitalization on operational efficiency through an integrated information system as a mediating variable in e-commerce logistics companies in Jabodetabek. Using an explanatory quantitative method, a sample of 100 operational employees and couriers was selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results show that warehousing digitalization has a positive and significant effect on operational efficiency and integrated information systems. Transportation digitalization has a positive and significant effect on integrated information systems but has no significant effect on operational efficiency. Furthermore, integrated information systems have no significant effect on operational efficiency and do not mediate the effects of transportation or warehousing digitalization on operational efficiency. These findings indicate that integrated information systems have not been proven to serve as a mechanism for improving operational efficiency. E-commerce logistics companies should evaluate user capabilities and system synchronization to ensure that technology integration has a tangible impact on cost and time efficiency.
