Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited public understanding of motor vehicle insurance provisions, particularly regarding coverage, exclusions, and clauses contained in the Indonesian Standard Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy (Polis Standar Asuransi Kendaraan Bermotor Indonesia—PSAKBI). The study aimed to identify and analyze the understanding of vehicle owners residing in RT 02 RW 01, Pondok Benda Subdistrict, Pamulang District, South Tangerang City, regarding motor vehicle insurance based on PSAKBI provisions. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method. Primary data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 20 respondents and analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that 75% of respondents had limited understanding of motor vehicle insurance, while their understanding of covered and excluded risks remained partial. Furthermore, 60% of respondents believed that all motor vehicle risks were covered by insurance, while only 40% considered understanding policy contents important. These findings indicate a gap between policy provisions and public understanding. Therefore, continuous education and socialization regarding PSAKBI coverage, exclusions, and clauses are recommended using simple and easily understood language.
